A year ago, Karen Biermans joined eyetec as a Lab Process Technician. In her role, she helps implement new processes within the lab, work that’s both technically challenging and full of opportunities to grow. What started as a coincidence during her internship soon grew into a place where she truly feels she belongs.

From internship to key team member

Karen first got to know eyetec during her internship, where she immediately felt a connection with the company’s atmosphere and people. “During my internship, I already noticed how open and supportive everyone was,” she says. “That positive experience made me want to stay after graduating.”

With a bachelor’s degree in Pharmaceutical and Biological Laboratory Technology, Karen brought a strong scientific foundation, but it was the company culture that convinced her to start her career here.

A smooth start on the work floor

Because she already knew eyetec from her internship, the transition from student to professional felt natural. “I felt at home right away,” she smiles. “My colleagues are helpful, and the atmosphere is open and familiar. We also do fun things outside of work, like our Christmas party and afternoon fun activities every 3 months, which makes eyetec feel like more than just a workplace.”

Contributing to new lab processes

Karen quickly got the opportunity to apply her knowledge to the Particle Identification Project, a challenge she’s been passionate about from the start. “I’ve been involved since the very beginning,” she explains. The project focuses on identifying and analysing particles in our customers’ product samples whenever contamination occurs: clients send in the samples of an affected batch, the particles are isolated and examined, and the goal is to pinpoint the source of the contamination.

Growing with eyetec

eyetec encourages personal and professional growth, something Karen has clearly experienced. “I’ve really improved my communication skills here, both internally with colleagues and externally with clients. The open communication and teamwork have helped me grow a lot in my role.”

A passion for science

Karen’s interest in the pharmaceutical world started long before she joined eyetec. “I’ve always had a strong fascination with medicines and pharmaceutical processes,” she says. “It’s inspiring to work in an environment where that passion is shared.”

Outside of work, Karen enjoys jiu-jitsu, spending time in the kitchen, and working on her sewing projects

Feeling at home at eyetec

After one year at eyetec, Karen feels completely at home. “It’s a company where you can truly be yourself, where trust and collaboration come first. I’m proud to be part of this team.
